Tourists will enjoy a safer and more enjoyable visit to Morecambe, thanks to the most recent crime-fighting operation in the seaside town.

Operation Day Tripper will see high visibility patrols circulate around popular tourist attractions, such as the promenade, the Eric Morecambe statue, the Festival Market, the Midland Hotel, Heysham village and out to some of the town’s parks.

Officers will be on hand to offer personal safety advice, as well as acting as a point of contact for anyone with any concerns.

Sgt Lindsay Brown, of Morecambe’s neighbourhood police team, said: “People enjoy coming to Morecambe on a day trip and we want them to leave with happy memories – which is why we will be offering tourists crime prevention advice.”

Advice being offered to tourists will include –

Keep your personal belongings close to you at all times
Never leave valuables on display in your car. Either take them with you or store them out of sight.
Don’t leave animals in hot cars
Take any rubbish home with you, or put it in a bin, so that the people after you enjoy their visit too
If you lose someone in your party, contact police who will assist you in finding them

Sgt Brown added: “Fortunately, most tourists have a wonderful time in Morecambe and by following this simple safety advice we hope that even more people are able enjoy their visit to the seaside so that they will come back to the town again and again.”
