A man has appeared in court in Lancashire charged with the suspected "honour killing" murder of a Saheel Ahmed, 24, last month.

Naeem Butt, 37, appeared before Blackburn Magistrates Court and was remanded into custody to re-appear at Preston Crown Court on Monday 12th July.

Butt, 37,of Johnston Street, Blackburn, was arrested in Edinburgh on Wednesday evening.

A murder hunt was launched after Mr Ahmed’s body was found in an alley at the top of Warrington Street, Blackburn around 1.50am on Tuesday 22 June, after police were called to a report of a disturbance.

Police say a post mortem revealed the cause of death to be multiple injuries. Mr Ahmed, who was from the town, had suffered a number of stab wounds consistent with the use of a bladed weapon.
