A 21-year-old Lancashire man has drowned after falling into a disused quarry.

Cameron McInnes plunged 40ft into icy water at Hillside Quarry, near Parbold, around 3pm on Sunday when a rope swing he was on snapped.

Mr McInnes, from Eccleston near Chorley, was playing with four friends when the wooden handle he was holding on to snapped.

A police search was launched and the victim's body was recovered by divers at 10.50am on Monday.

In 1999, Liverpool schoolboy Sam Fowler, 14, also drowned at the quarry.
