Lancashire man critical after being hit by car

An elderly man has been left fighting for his life after he was hit by a car in Ormskirk.

Police were called to County Road, Aughton, at around 10pm on Monday after reports of a collision involving a Peugeot 107 and a pedestrian.

The 75-year-old victim, who is from Ormskirk, suffered serious head injuries and a broken neck and was taken to Southport Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The female driver of the Peugeot was uninjured and the road was closed around the junction of Green Lane and The Hayfield Public House for two hours while investigations took place.

Lancashire Police Sergeant Dave Tonge said: “An investigation into this collision is now underway and I would appeal to anybody who witnessed it to contact police.”
