Blackpool is the "Place to Be"

An innovative scheme to attract health-care workers to the beauty of Blackpool is under way, as a new recruitment website launches.

The job site for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre hospitals, features top quality photographs of Blackpool and the surrounding area, and aims to show those looking for a career in the health sector that this is the "Place to Be."

As well as the photographs, the site www.blackpool-theplacetobe.nhs.uk features videos showing staff members away from work talking about why they enjoy living in the area so much.

The idea for the website came about after feedback from NHS jobhunters revealed that most people felt Blackpool was a town purely based around tourism, preventing it from being an ideal place to live and work.

Recruitment Manager for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Malcolm Stamp, wanted to shake that image. He said: "This is an innovative move for the Trust in many ways because not many NHS organisations host their own recruitment website.

"We wanted to do something to promote Blackpool and the surrounding areas such as Lytham, St Annes, Poulton and Fleetwood with some striking visual images that show the beauty of the area. We wanted to get the message across that Blackpool is "The Place to Be", both as a place to work and a place to live."

Senior Staff Nurse Luke Sumner is featured on the website. He said: "I think Blackpool gives people a very good quality of life. There are lots of facilities and nice housing areas and a good transport system."

The website states:"Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the perfect place to build your career. And this is the place to find out more about working with us. You’ll soon see that, here, you can be involved in providing high-quality care. You’ll find a place to feel welcomed, supported and appreciated. And a place where you can strike the ideal balance between work and life.

"So take a look around this site to learn more about the opportunities and benefits we offer, and see if we currently have a vacancy for you. You will find that we really are the place to be."
