After seeing their team record historic wins against Manchster United and Everton, Burnley fans were brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday.
Despite the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, Clarets followers were left seething by events off the pitch after a tense stand-off with Anfield staff.
Several supporters claimed that their view of the game was restricted after stewards in the visitors' section of the Anfield Road stand stood in front of their rows, forcing several fans to have to stand on their tip-toes to get a slightly better view of the game.
There were reports that some supporters were ejected for complaining about the stewarding after an announcement about persistent standing was aired over the PA system.
Burnley devotees were particularly aggrieved at the double standards shown after stewards turned a blind eye to Liverpool supporters standing up in the Kop for the entire game.
"Some of the stewards at the front near the corner were heavy handed and seemed too intent on identifying people who they could throw out," one supporter fumed.
"One guy got ejected for what seemed to be merely complaining that one of the stewards was stood right in front of him therefore blocking his view.
"Luckily the guy was allowed back after five minutes or so however the steward went and stood in the same spot then immediately went to eject someone else for complaining about the same thing!
"All in all I thought the whole stewarding operation was overblown, full of self importance and totally insensitive."
Prior to the game, Liverpool had announced the launch of a new scheme which saw the away fans' section decked out with the claret and blue of Burnley to make visiting supporters feel more welcome at Anfield.
