
A man who was in collision with a car while he was out jogging in West Lancashire is recovering in hospital despite suffering serious injuries.
The 48-year-old is thought to have been running on a footpath alongside the A59 'Northway' when he was knocked down at around 9.50am on 28th January Aughton, near Ormskirk.
Lancashire Constabulary said he driver of a Peugeot 106 car heading towards Ormskirk lost control and he vehicle left the road near the Swan Inn.
The car ploughed into the jogger, who suffered serious head injuries and a number of broken bones.
He was taken by ambulance to the emergency unit at University Hospital Ainree where doctors operated on his injuries. His condition was described as "citical".
The driver of the Peugeot suffered from the effect of shock but was otherwise unhurt.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
Sgt Malcolm Bell, of the Lancshire Road Policing Unit, said: "I would appeal for anyone who saw the collision itself or the Peugeot in the moments leading up to the collision to get in touch with us.”
