A house in Ormskirk which has been at the centre of serious disorder for over five years has been closed down by police.

Ormskirk Magistrates’ Court granted the anti-social behaviour closure order at the property on Lea Crescent on Thursday 1st December after hearing how police had received repeated complaints from residents.

The order comes after a catalogue of complaints were received about anti-social behaviour including throwing objects such as cartons believed to contain bodily fluids, broken metal and other rubbish into neighbours’ gardens.

Reports had also been received of verbal abuse, damage to the hedges of adjoining properties, running through the gardens of adjourning properties and hoax 999 calls.

A total of 56 incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour were reported to the police in 2011 alone in connection with the address but officers say there have been problems at the address for over five years.

Community Beat Manager PC Paul Whittaker worked alongside PC Ewan Wells and PCSO Danii Wohler to secure the order.

PC Whittaker said: “This house had become a nightmare for local residents, making their lives a misery. Residents, particularly direct neighbours, had suffered from anti-social behaviour for over five years.

“We have worked closely with local residents to try to address anti-social behaviour in the area and I commend the action of those individuals who have worked with us and spoken out to help close this house.

“I hope that this action will now bring the local people some much needed respite.

“We are committed to making sure West Lancashire is not blighted by anti-social behaviour and we will continue to use all tactics available to us to rid local communities of nuisance.”

The neighbourhood policing team and local residents provided the court with evidence of what had been going on at the addresses to secure the order.

The court was also presented with a petition in support of the closure order which over 110 residents on the estate had signed.

As a result, the court ordered that the property is closed down for three months, during which time anyone found entering the property will be arrested and could face a fine or imprisonment.

The house has now been boarded up and details of the closure order have been posted on the door.

The residents of the property - a man, his two sons and another teenage boy, have now moved out.

One of the residents, 19-year-old Lee Fyles, is currently subject to an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO).

The ASBO, which will remain in place until October 2012, prevents him from entering Ormskirk Rugby Club and an indentified area within the Scott estate, consuming alcohol in a public place and causing graffiti. He is also banned from possessing fireworks, matches or a lighter.

Measures are now in place to ensure the welfare of the family, including housing and support.

Anyone with any information or concerns about anti-social behaviour can contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
