A Leyland man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenager in Chorley.

Zulfikar Ahmad Nawaz, 56 of Balshaw Road, was sentenced to five years in prison at Preston Crown Court after being convicted of sexual assault at an earlier trial.

The incident occurred at around 3 am on 5th December 2010 when Nawaz, a taxi driver, refused to stop his car outside the home address of his teenage male victim.

He took the victim to a secluded dirt-track near Chorley and assaulted him. The victim managed to escape the vehicle however and Nawaz was arrested on the same day.

Detective Sergeant Phil Bowerbank said: “Fortunately these sorts of offences are very rare but I hope this provides some reassurance to the local community that this man is now behind bars.

“I am pleased with the sentence given which reflects the nature of the offence. I hope this outcome will now help the victim to put the incident behind him and move on with his life.

“We are committed to investigating offences of this nature and we will continue to put offenders before the courts.”

Nawaz will also be put on the sex offenders’ register for life and is subject to a ten year ban on driving any passenger-carrying vehicle.
