A nuisance beggar has been banned from entering Burnley town centre after continuously intimidating and abusing shoppers.
Kevin Feeney, 44 of Able Street, received a two-year Anti Social Behaviour Order from Reedley Magistrates on Thursday afternoon.
Action was taken following continuous complaints from concerned members of the public about Feeney’s behaviour. This included intimidation, harassment, verbal abuse and anti social behaviour.
In the last four months alone, security staff have removed Feeney from various points across the town centre on over 20 occasions.
Under the conditions of the Order, Feeney is banned from entering Burnley Town centre unless attending a pre arranged medical appointment.
He is also banned from approaching members of the public and asking for money within the Burnley Borough Council area.
Community Beat Manager PC Ashley James said, “Feeney has caused a lot of problems and been extremely disruptive to shoppers, visitors and shop keepers in the town centre.
“His aggressive and intimidating behaviour has left local residents in fear and distress and this ASBO should afford them much needed protection from his behaviour.”
Feeney failed to attend court this afternoon but will be served the full sanction. Any breaches of the order will result in arrest and prosecution.
