Detectives investigating the death of a baby whose body was found in a brook in Kirkham have confirmed he was a baby boy.
The child was initially believed to be a girl, however further tests have revealed he was a boy.
Police have also confirmed that the baby was born full term and not premature, and although his body was in a very poor condition, they believe him to be no more than one month old.
DS Neil Esseen, Senior Investigating Officer, said: "Today's developments underline the difficulties facing the inquiry but importantly our investigation is continuing to move forward.
"Our primary focus is to trace the mother of this baby boy to ensure she is given the help and support that she needs.”
Officers have thanked members of the public for coming forward with possible names for a young girl seen pushing a pram close to the area at the end of September.
Police are continuing to appeal for information about items found at the scene close to the body, including two towels and a fleece.
DS Esseen added: "I cannot emphasise enough that even the smallest pieces of information may prove crucial in finding out exactly what has happened."
