VSO UK are looking for local residents to provide a warm Lancashire welcome to a pair of young volunteers, one from Sri Lanka and one from the UK.
This is a rare opportunity to share experiences, compare lifestyles and cultures and become friends with young volunteers, who are really excited about living and working in the local community.
VSO UK are looking for local homes with a spare room to host two volunteers aged 18-25 for 2 to10 weeks. Support is provided to assist you in participating in this exciting project. A weekly allowance of £100 is offered to contribute towards accommodation and food costs as well as ongoing support from local programme supervisor Ellen Donnelly.
The Global Xchange will begin in Sri Lanka, with the UK phase taking place from 28th November 2010 – 20th February 2011.
Ellen said: “The 18 volunteers will be giving 6000 volunteer hours to communities across the boroughs of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Burnley. For many of the volunteers this is their first time away from their families.
"I know that East Lancashire is a really friendly place and I’m sure that these amazing young people will be welcomed by the local community.”
There are others ways of getting involved if you can’t host volunteers in your home.
If you are interested in this British Council and VSO run programme please contact Ellen Donnelly, programme supervisor on 07884235637 or email ellen.donnelly@vso.org.uk. Further information is available at www.globalxchnage.org.uk
