Heathcotes Olive Press: five-star haute cuisine served with style and a smile

Set in Preston's business quarter Winckley Square, Heathcotes' Olive Press offers a warm welcome, rustic Italian-inspired surroundings, exquisite haute cuisine and an unrivalled dining experience.

Scenes of romantic waterworld Venice, candlelight and food that makes your face orgasm makes it an ideal venue for a date or special occasion.

Nu-soul divas Jill Scott, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige and Balearic chillout beats provided a gentle Friday night soundtrack fit for the dolled-up nervous first dates and guests celebrating their birthdays, as two choruses and cheers rang out complete with Heathcotes' sparklers and ice-cream.

Heathcotes recently won national recognition and a Sunday Times award for 'One To Watch' in their annual 'Best Companies to Work For 2009 list.' And the service was outstanding, warm and authentic - most of the staff were Italian - and they were attentive to our every need without being intrusive.

The menu's range is innovative and impressive, fusing classic Italian dishes alongside more adventurous choices with plenty of choice for vegetarians and carnivores alike featuring several veal options.

To start, we enjoyed the grilled asparagus and fried duck egg topped with a truffle and squabbled over the cooked-to-perfection melt-in-your-mouth seared scallops and butter beans which I look forward to sampling again very soon.

For the entrees my dining partner went for the succulent baby chicken, polenta and artichoke with sides of spinach and pine nuts and salty homemade frites. I had the superb tempura-style seafood, which was delicately battered and served with a huge plate of risotto. Our meals were both delicious, generous-sized portions and beautifully presented.

To end our delightful meal we shared and compared notes on the tart limoncello pancakes and smooth, almost fluffy chocolate cheesecake and vanilla ice-cream.
