A call is going out to families in East Lancashire to "visit Sri-Lanka"...without leaving the county!
It comes in the shape of an opportunity to provide a lancashire welcome to a pair of young volunteers, one from Sri Lanka, in Asia, and one from the UK.
Host families will have the chance to "explore the world" by sharing experiences, comparing lifestyles and cultures and becoming friends with young volunteers, who are really excited about living and working in the local community.
Global Xchange are looking for local homes with a spare room to host two volunteers aged 18-25 for between 2 and 10 weeks.
Accommodation is required late in 2010 and early in 2011 and support will be provided to assist hosts in participating in the exciting project.
Global Xchange offer a weekly allowance of £100 to contribute towards costs of accommodation and food as well as ongoing support from local programme supervisor Ellen Donnelly.
The Global Xchange will begin in Sri Lanka, with the UK phase taking place from 28th November 2010 – 20th February 2011.
Ellen said: "The 18 volunteers will be giving 6000 volunteer hours to communities across the boroughs of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Burnley.
"For many of the volunteers this is their first time away from their families. I know that East Lancashire is a really friendly place and I’m sure that these amazing young people will be welcomed by the local community."
For those who cannot host volunteers in their home other opportunities exist.
