Some of the biggest names in folk music are to deliver a one-off performance for crowds at Wigan Words Festival this April.
Topping the bill at the event at Wigan Parish Church is Ashley Hutchings, the founder member of legendary folk groups Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and the Albion Band.
He will be joined by fellow band member Ken Nicol, the lead guitarist in Steeleye Span and up and coming folk singer-songwriter Becky Mills.
The trio will deliver a mixture of poetry, prose and song in a performance specially prepared for the occasion.
Ashley Hutchings said: "We will be performing everything from Shakespeare to Bruce Springsteen, this is a total on-off exclusive show for Wigan."
Organiser David Cartlidge said: "This event promises to be a special evening. Featuring some of the most respected artists in the folk world, it is a fantastic way for people to experience the power of words in a unique and intimate atmosphere.”
In recent months Wigan Parish Church has become a popular venue for folk music. In December the church welcomed the Albion band, for their only North-West date.
The Wigan Words Festival is now in its seventh year. Last year the festival played host to TV scriptwriters Frank Cottrell Boyce and Jimmy McGovern.
The folk performance will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14th April at Wigan Parish Church. Tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the door and are available from 01942 824291. Doors open at 7.00pm.
