Blackpool puts on a show for Royal Variety Performance

The resort's famous illuminations were due light the Queen's route to the Winter Gardens for the first Royal Variety Performance in the resort since 1955.

The royal procession was due to take in the sigths on the Promenade as it headd to the Opera House in the Winter Gardens.

Hosted by comedian Peter Kay, the show's performers include Lady GaGa and Bette Midler.

Recording artist servicemen "The Soldiers" scheduled to sing the National Anthem, but not in their military uniforms.

The trio, who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, have an album "Coming Home" in the charts with part of the proceeds going service charities and the Army Benevolent Fund.

But military rules dictate that military uniforms cannot be word for "secondary jobs", so they will have to perform in civvies.

The last time Blackpool Opera House played host the show was in the 1950s, when Morecambe and Wise, Arthur Askey and George Formby were on the bill.

Britain's Got Talent Winners "Diversity" and opera singer Katherine Jenkins are also among those who will perform.

The "Command Performance" was first staged in 1912 with the proceeds going towards the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund.

* A toilet first fitted-out for the exclusive use of the royal party in 1955 has been refurbished for the event.

I have a programme and a stage door pass from the last night of the Royal command performance show in 1955 any ideas what to do with it ?

As far away as the police would let me and as far as I could imagine it was the best night in Blackpool for a long time not as long as 1955.
