Blackpool FC have been asked to clarify the position of acting chief executive Karl Oyston by the Premier League.
The 43-year-old was declared bankrupt on 18th August - the same day he announced his resignation as chairman of the club.
Under top flight regulation anyone declared bankrupt is prohibited from holding the position of chairman or director of a club.
It is thought that Oyston may currently be acting as a shadow director, which is disallowed.
A Premier League spokesman said: "We are speaking to the club to clarify his position in relation to his new role there and the full circumstances of the bankruptcy."
Oyston originally wanted to stay on as acting chief executive until the end of the season or until a replacement was found following his resignation as Chairman.
He is due to be discharged from bankruptcy on 18th August 2011 according to the Individual Insolvency Register.
