Mark Owen has turned to Robbie Williams for help in battling the serious alcohol problem he has hidden for ten years.
The singer has confessed to cheating on his wife Emma with at least ten different women, including one affair which lasted almost the entire length of their relationship. Mark claimed his infidelity was linked to his problem with alcohol, and has now revealed his former Take That bandmate is helping him with his problem.
Robbie has completed stints in rehab for various substance abuse issues, including an addiction to prescription medication. He is desperate to help Mark deal with his issues. Mark has also opened up to the other members of Take That – Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Jason Orange – which he says helped.
“I told the lads a few days ago that I am trying to deal with a drink problem,” he revealed. “I spoke to Rob about it too.
“I’ve always tried not to involve anyone else, including the boys. Maybe the lads might have suspected sometimes.
“Me and Howard were up late in the studio and we were talking about me being drunk. He was saying sometimes my head sways around and he can’t understand what I’m saying.
"I admitted I had a drink problem I never knew I had. I felt better after that. I’m glad I’ve told them, so they can look after me a bit now.
"I still have the odd drink but it might have to turn to cold turkey eventually.”
Mark, 38, claims his battle with alcohol began when the band split in 1996. He moved to his secluded home in the Lake District to work on solo material, and began drinking every night.
He admits his habit caused problems in his relationship with Emma, who he has been with for five years and has two children with. They married in a lavish ceremony last November.
He began drinking as soon as his kids went to bed, with things getting so bad Emma eventually asked him to stop and demanded he get help. Mark is now seeing a therapist for his problem.
