Cheryl Cole is to split from cheating husband Ashley Cole.
The announcement came as the X Factor star arrived back in the UK after spending the week in Los Angeles.
The 26-year-old released a statement on Tuesday afternoon which read: "Cheryl Cole is separating from her husband Ashley Cole. Cheryl asks the media to respect her privacy during this difficult time.
"We have no further comment to make."
The singer wore dark glasses, a trilby hat and no wedding ring as she walked through the arrivals lounge at Heathrow and into her waiting car, followed by two police officers.
Cheryl flew to the US to work on her new album shortly after the latest infidelity rumours were published. She is believed to have had little contact with Ashley since then, but is understood to have sent him a text message to tell him their relationship was over.
Her decision to call time on her three-and-a-half year marriage comes after it was revealed 29-year-old Ashley had cheated with a string of women, including Liverpool FC secretary Vicki Gough.
The blonde beauty was 'outed' as the Chelsea defender's mystery mistress on an internet forum by Birmingham FC fans - the club she previously worked for.
As the Girls Aloud stunner prepared to return to the couple's marital home, Ashley had reportedly moved out.
The England international was seen leaving their home in Hurtmore, Surrey, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. He did his best to hide in the back of his chauffeured car, but his crutches were seen propped up in the back seat.
In 2008, it was alleged Ashley had slept with a hairdresser after a drunken night out. Cheryl refused to wear her wedding ring following the revelation, but the pair worked through their problems and she was pictured in the band eight months later.
The new claims have apparently hit Cheryl hard, with the star struggling to eat and hardly sleeping.
She has apparently told pals she feels she has been living a lie, saying: "I’ve had enough. It feels like there is no way back. I simply just don’t know which way to turn any more. He feels like he’s a stranger to me."
