Beyonce scoops record six gongs at Grammy Awards

Beyonce Knowles won a record-breaking six Grammy Awards at Sunday's awards ceremony.

The singer was named Female Vocal Performance of the Year for her hit 'Halo', while her song 'Single Ladies' won her Song of the Year, R&B Song and R&B Vocal Performance.

The 28-year-old had been nominated for 10 gongs and won six, setting a new record for the most wins by a female artist in one night. She was previously tied for the honour with Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse and Alison Krauss, having all won five awards in the past.

The former Destiny's Child star her success made her “nervous”, before thanking her family and husband Jay-Z for their support.

She said: "I'd love to thank my family for all of their support, including my husband. I love you."

Young country and western singer Taylor Swift was another big winner on the night. She took home four awards, including nods for Album of the Year, Best Country Album and Best Country Song.

Michael Jackson was also awarded a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, which was accepted by his eldest children Prince and Paris.
