Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and his assistant Eric Black return to the DW Stadium only a few months after leaving for the Wearside club.
In the wake of Wigan chairman Dave Whelan’s comments about Bruce’s ‘dodgy signing’ while boss at the club, Black has revealed he and his boss enjoyed their time with the club.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo he said: "We had a wonderful time at Wigan and are both very proud of what we achieved there.
"But for the fact that we got a very good offer to come and work at a big club like this, I'm sure we would have still been at Wigan and enjoying the challenge just as much as we always did.
"The first year there was certainly difficult for us. They had eight points and it was already November, which is not great.
"But things turned round and I really enjoyed working with Wigan.
"They are nice people but we feel we have come to a real football club here.
"That is no disrespect to Wigan because Dave Whelan has done a phenomenal job there and everyone must give him the respect he is due for that."
