Slumdog Director Danny Boyle has returned to his Lancashire home to show his Oscar to his dad.

The 52-year-old arrived to hero's welcome outside St Mary's Social Club in Radcliffe, Bury, where his family and friends has gathered to watch the ceremony last week.

Toasting his success with the rest of his friends and neighbours were his father Frank, 87, and twin sister Maria.

His film 'Slumdog Millionaire' walked away with eight Oscars in total including Boyle's best director award and the best picture prize.

Boyle promised to mention his father Frank's local club in his acceptance speech and he kept true to his word.

Danny said: "You kind of dream about stuff like this.

"Everyone has been telling me how proud they are . It doesn't get better than this."

Sister Maria said: "It's been really emotional for everyone.

"When we saw the Oscar we all just broke down. You just cannot believe its real and then the pride hits you and you think to yourself 'Our Danny won this."

Boyle also directed the films Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and The Beach.

He is now being lined up for the honour of Freeman of the Borough of Bury, by the council.
