Young patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital have been brushing up on their art skills with a competition run by building contractors.
Laing O’Rourke, who are currently building the new Women and Children’s Unit at the hospital, ran the special art competition where the winning children would have their work displayed around the construction site.
The competition was split into three age groups and, after a tough judging process, the winners were announced this week.
In the infant category, four-year-old Madison Bradwell impressed judges with her colourful sunshine picture, while Poppy Iddan, 9, painted a hospital bed with a rainbow overhead to top the junior group.
An under-the-sea inspired artwork by 12-year-old Eleanor Reader was chosen as the winner of the secondary school-age category.
Laing O'Rourke's Peter Stephenson said: “It has been great to work with the youngsters. We thought it would be a nice idea for the pupils to decorate the hoardings with their own artwork. We asked the children to produce a drawing or painting which showed what being in hospital meant to them.
“We are absolutely delighted with the drawings and paintings the children have created. They have captured the details and character of the hospital perfectly and the finished artwork looks fantastic.”
