
The most senior female police officer in Lancashire has been honoured in the New Year’s Honours List.
Assistant Chief Constable Wendy Walker has been awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for her long and distinguished service with Lancashire Constabulary.
Wendy has been with the Constabulary since 1981. She initially joined as a foot patrol officer in Blackpool before she moved onto Preston, and then to Blackburn where she worked in CID.
Wendy was successfully promoted through the ranks before becoming Superintendent, Operations Manager for Eastern Division. During her service, Wendy has been Head of Partnerships and Community Safety; has led on HR and Training; and was the Divisional Commander of Northern Division, where she guided the division through the Morecambe Bay cockle pickers tragedy.
In 2005 Wendy was seconded to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary in Wakefield and then, in December 2007, was appointed as Assistant Chief Constable, Territorial Divisions and Criminal Justice before taking up her current role as head of the "People" portfolio.
She also leads, nationally, on probationer police officer training and development, as well as being a qualified hostage negotiator.
During her police service, Wendy has also attained a Master of Arts in Organisational Management at Manchester University, and she lives in Clitheroe, Lancashire with her partner and their two dogs.
