Olympic equestrian event rider Jeanette Brakewell has praised equine students at Myerscough College as “the highest standard I’ve seen”.

The double Olympic silver medallist recently spent a day teaching students at the college’s International Equine Arena.

Commenting on her time at the college, she said: “They’re relaxed, attentive and willing to work hard to improve their riding skills.

“They genuinely want to want to work hard and develop a strong partnership with their horse, which is the most important thing.

“I love coming back to Myerscough College to teach the students.

“As well as the chance to spend the day with students at Myerscough’s International Arena, one of the most impressive Equestrian centres in the Country, returning to Lancashire has an added bonus for me.

“My parents I’ve and work as dairy farmers in Brindle, so hopefully while I’m here I’ll get chance to go home and see them!”

The decorated Olympic and Great Britain rider is a regular visitor to Myerscough College, visiting the College three times a year to teach both of further and higher education students.

As the College’s special guest in 2009, she helped Myerscough students raise over £1,500 at an Equestrian Charity Gala in aid of Riding for the Disabled Association.

Speaking about the visit Head of Equine at Myerscough College Julia Gray said: “We are always thrilled to have Jeanette teach the students, it is a unique opportunity that the College provides and the students greatly benefit from.

“The students are very lucky to have an Olympic rider visiting three times a year specifically to provide tuition that supports their academic and career development and the day is always a great success.

“Some of our students have gone onto complete work experience with Jeanette which again adds significant value to their academic qualification. We pride ourselves on producing students who are industry ready and to have the seal of approval from an Olympic athlete is fantastic!”

Brakewell won silver medals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Games in Beijing.
As well as enjoying Olympic success, she spent several years as a regular member of the British Three Day Eventing Team with her horse Over to You.

With the same horse, Brakewell also won four team Gold Medals at the European Eventing Championship in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005.

She also won individual Silver at the 2002 FEI World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, winning a bronze medal at the same event.
