Workers at O2’s customer service centre in Bury will be doing their bit for Comic Relief tomorrow (March 18th) when they staff the pledge lines to collect donations on the night.
More than 170 people from the centre on Dumers Lane have volunteered to give up their evening to receive donations in aid of the charity.
From 6pm to midnight, O2 people will be receiving calls on behalf of the BBC as the show goes out live across the UK.
In between taking the pledges, they will be getting funny themselves as managers volunteer to have custard pies thrown at their faces, sponsored ones of course.
Throughout the day all of the teams working in the centre will be wearing the clothes that are usually hidden in the darkest corner of the wardrobe as the ‘ bad taste’ fancy dress day gets the party underway.
Among the activities planned for Friday, Operations Manager, Andy White will be sponsored to drink a ‘Toxic Tankard’. People working in the centre have sponsored ingredients to go into pot including fish guts and red hot Chilies. So fire crews will be on hand to cool his mouth down!
Liam Doherty, Operations Manager at O2 Bury said: “Our people are dedicated to giving a little bit back and to do something funny to raise money for a great cause like Comic Relief.
"When we asked for volunteers to work Friday night we only needed 70 advisers but we had 170 sign up. Each year we do something to make this a night to remember and generate as many donations as we can.
"Our teams have a brilliant time and while I am hoping that the Toxic Tankard contains some nice ingredients I really am prepared for anything!”
