A £75,000 Grant for Business Investment (GBI) has been awarded to a Burnley engineering company by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

Investment will assist BCW Engineering to invest in new workspace and additional machinery which will create 15 new jobs over two years.

The firm, which has 80 employees over two sites at Phoenix Way and Bancroft Road, provides aerospace, automotive and marine components using state of the art precision engineering.

GBI is part of ‘Solutions for Business’, the Government's package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow.

Mark Hughes, NWDA Executive Director of Economic Development said: “Without GBI funding BCW Engineering would be unable to carry out a significant investment which will ensure the company can meet customer demand and grow.

"Grant funding will safeguard the company in Burnley and create another 15 jobs in the advanced engineering and materials industry, one of the region’s key sectors.”

The firm was established in 2002 and in 2008 became Tier 1 suppliers to Jaguar Cars and received approvals from BAe Systems and Aircelle.

Following the GBI investment BCW Engineering will invest a further £861,000 into the business to ensure it can meet growing customer demand. The new equipment will increase the company’s production capacity and ensure work is more efficient.

In the longer term it will help BCW Engineering to achieve Tier 1 status with more customers.

The NWDA is playing a crucial role in response to the current economic downturn, with a number of actions being taken to meet the needs of businesses during these challenging times.

Paul Biggs, Technical Sales Director at BCW, said: “The provision of this grant will be the springboard for us to realise our strategy for the next phase of our development. It is essential that BCW invest in new equipment to enable us to meet our customers’ needs which will not only secure the position of our existing employees but also bring further employment to the Burnley area.”
