New figures signal recovery for North West housing market

New figures suggest the worst of the recession may be over in the North West, after solicitors reported a 10% rise in house sales in the six months from August 2009 to January 2010.

Residential conveyancing experts at Blackpool's Blackhurst Budd solicitors, claim that despite a 50% drop in the housing market since 2008, the latest statistics could signal the end to the downturn.

John Taylor, head of the residential conveyancing team at Blackhurst Budd said: "Over the last six months we have seen real signs of an upturn.

"New work from conveyancing is ten percent higher over the last six months, and these figures also include January which is notorious for being a quiet month for conveyancing work."

However according to John the upsurge in work also indicates that the housing market in the North West, particularly in Lancashire, is beginning to show signs of improvement.

He said: "Conveyancing is always a good barometer of the housing market, and with work on the increase we could be seeing signs of real recovery in the area."
