The North West housing market is showing signs of an upturn after a reported upsurge in conveyancing in the last six months.
Blackpool legal firm, Blackhurst Budd Solicitors, has seen a ten per cent increase in work for the conveyancing team from August 2009 to the end of January 2010.
Head of the Residential Conveyancing Team, John Taylor said: "With the down turn in the housing market in 2008, conveyancing has been at an all time low in Lancashire, with our workload less than half of what it was two years ago. However over the last six months we have seen real signs of an upturn.
"New work from conveyancing is ten percent higher over the last six months and these figures also include January which is notorious for being a quiet month for conveyancing work."
The new figures indicate that the housing market in Lancashire, in particular on the Flyde coast, is beginning to show signs of improvement.
John said: “Conveyancing is always a good barometer of the housing market, and with work on the increase we could be seeing signs of recovery on the Fylde.”
Blackhurst Budd also credit the increase in work to the formation of a specialist residential conveyancing team and the recent creation of a commercial team, which has helped them attract new work.
